The University of Chicago Medical Center – an impressive structure
Beaubois was proud to be a part of the construction of the latest addition to this world-famous institution. At 10 storeys high and spanning over 1.2 million sq. ft. in area, the new building will join the University’s other impressive institutions – Comer Children’s Hospital, Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine, Gordon Center for Integrative Science and Knapp Center for Biomedical Discovery. The new space was designed to be able to accommodate new departments and even more sophisticated equipment in the future.
Beaubois provided counters and cupboards for the 240 rooms, as well as wainscots and a dropped ceiling in a laminated plastic that resembles wood. The windowsills and wainscots in the corridors and operating rooms were created with solid polymer surfaces fabricated in the firm’s plant.
The Beaubois team crafted stunning wood panels of varying depths and angles to create a peaceful wave effect in the building’s chapel. The altar and pews were also produced with care by the team; as well as wood bases for the lockers and protective wall and corner moldings throughout the building. Finally, Beaubois produced elegant curved nursing stations and other architectural elements for the facility’s reception area. This was a cutting-edge project and the Beaubois team was honored to be an integral part of its success.
