The Beaubois team meticulously recreated the wooden built-in furnishings of the Salem Probate and Family Court, some of which were over 100 years old. Using historic photos for inspiration, the team carefully extracted the old white and red oak wood and crafted new architectural millwork to suit the historic building.
Beaubois custom-designed and installed the courtroom furnishings including the judges', clerks' and lawyers' offices, the witness and jury boxes, seats, wall panels and ceiling panels. The team also participated in reconstructing the public waiting areas and washrooms, as well as the exterior pediment, designed to be almost identical to that of the historic building.
With an investment of nearly $50 million, the new Salem Probate and Family Court was designed to meet LEED silver standards, namely efficient use of energy and recycled materials. Large windows fill the building with natural light. Beaubois' architectural millwork for this project blends a profound respect of the historic craft with a mastery of today’s industry.
