Kellogg School of Management – an inspiring space
Beaubois provided avant-garde architectural woodwork for the new Kellogg School of Management in Evanston, Illinois. Known for its innovative approach to business management education, the prestigious school is housed in a building designed to facilitate collaborative learning and provide a welcoming environment for students, teachers and visitors.
Design details were conceived to minimize noise bounce and create a low-noise space. Beaubois created curved acoustic wall panels for all of the classrooms. The panels, made one at a time, were produced with a series of perforations. A total of 15,000-20,000 panels were created for each classroom.
For the staircases, the Beaubois team used leather to cover the stringers (horizontal supports that run along the banister on the open side) and treads of five storeys for steps. The team also produced and installed three other metal staircases for the facility.
A key characteristic of the design was the flexibility of the spaces – allowing classrooms to become seminars, office spaces and study rooms when needed. Beaubois crafted custom furniture for the students’ and reception areas, as well as 53-foot-long tables that were connected to the school’s computer and electrical system.
Developed with a keen awareness of sustainable building practices, the new facility complies with LEED® standards. Natural light is maximized in all areas, and a stunning view of Lake Michigan can be appreciated from almost anywhere in the building. The new Kellogg School of Management is a true reflection of the institution’s commitment to creativity and innovation.
