Hidalgo County Courthouse – creating a landmark for South Texas
The new Hidalgo County Courthouse, located in Edinburg, Texas, is a seven-story, 321,000-square-foot building designed to accommodate 24 courtrooms and shell space for 6 future courtrooms, the Hidalgo County Bar Association, a central utility plant, a security screening area, parking space, and 1000 additional beds for the existing detention centre.
Inside, Beaubois manufactured and installed traditional jury boxes and judges’ benches, as well as an innovative and discrete nesting wall that was custom designed to provide wheelchair access. As always, this was a successful collaboration with representatives from Morganti Texas and HDR Architects, who reviewed mock-ups in person, at Beaubois facilities, to ensure quality and avoid any delays in construction.
Inspired by the local architecture and the history of the Rio Grande River, the design incorporates native plant materials, Talavera tile, natural lighting and stunning large scale porcelain panels.
