The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia – an innovative health care facility

The design and construction of the new pediatric outpatient care center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care, required an investment of almost $600M. The unique architecture of the building, complete with a contoured facade and 12 storeys of rippling bright colored glass; is in keeping with the facility’s theme of “Children in Motion” and provides an uplifting sense for patients and visitors.

The innovative outpatient center is filled with natural light and includes an expansive 14,000-sq.-ft. garden on the sixth storey with shade arbors, a fountain, a water channel, a play area and a jogging path. This impressive outdoor space is used for physiotherapy sessions as well as public or patient events. The building complies with LEED® Silver certification standards.
