Montreal University Hospital Center (CHUM) Phase 1– a world-class superhospital
Developed as a private-public partnership (PPP), the CHUM integrates the resources of three hospitals, Notre-Dame, Hôtel-Dieu and Saint-Luc, together under one roof. The new institution is one of the largest biomedical research centers in Canada and one of the largest university centers in North America.
In addition to diagnostic and therapeutic departments and hospital rooms, the CHUM has an outpatient center, robot-supported laboratories, clinical-administrative offices, an amphitheater and a clinical and logistical support building. Beaubois provided architectural woodwork and furnishings for up to 10,000 rooms and spaces in the world-class superhospital. This was an immense job that required extremely tight coordination to be completed in just 23 months.
In accordance with the principles of sustainable development, LEED® Silver certification level, the new institution was designed to create a welcoming environment flooded with natural light and offering exceptional views of Montreal. Green spaces are available for patients and visitors.
With state-of-the-art technologies and equipment, the CHUM’s mission is to care for adult patients in partnership with the Université de Montréal and the Réseau de la santé. Beaubois produced all of the architectural woodwork and built-in furnishings required, incorporating sophisticated medical equipment and taking into consideration the specific characteristics of each space.
This was one of the most ambitious urban integration projects carried out in Quebec in the last few decades and Beaubois was honored to be an integral part of its success.
