The Capitol Visitor Center – a distinguished structure
Thousands of visitors pass through the doors of Washington’s Capitol Visitor Center each day. Beaubois’ unique architectural woodwork can be admired throughout the three levels of the center that cover a total of 53,800 sq. m.
The Beaubois team used cherry wood and sapele pommele to craft custom furniture and architectural woodwork pieces for lobbies, theaters, meeting rooms, washrooms, a 600-seat food court and a vast auditorium. Impressive features, such as 18.2-meter-high wall panels, made this project particularly exhilarating for the Beaubois team.
The Capitol Visitor Center is an extension of the historic building, the cornerstone of which was laid by George Washington on September 18, 1793. The center is located entirely underground and paving stone tops the roof. The juxtaposition of stone and wood give this structure its characteristic charm. Guests are invited to visit an exhibition of historic articles and documents, eat, shop for souvenirs and attend presentations, adding an interesting dimension to their visit.
